Assignment 2: Time Video
Sydney's Website Portfolio
Assignment 4: Supernatural Animation Video
Assignment 2: Intervention GIF
My animated gif intervenes with my everyday life as an artist, trying to constantly think of new ideas and concepts to further my artistic career and build on my portfolio. Sometimes it is very troubling to constantly come up with new ideas and I find that many artists are quite hard on themselves when they are stuck in an artistic ‘rut.’ In the video I am clearly very troubled that I cannot think of any ideas for my painting project, so I turn to AI technology to solve this issue. If only this technology were real for artists creating paintings!
I chose to create a video
in the time period of the Renaissance, combined with the aspect of tarot card reading. I thought
that since I am a major in art history, it would be interesting to introduce this into my work. For my main character I chose Lorenzo de Medici, a member of the famous and wealthy Medici family from Florence. To add the aspect of the supernatural I chose to include tarot card reading, since it emerged from around this time period. Tarot reading is very much supernatural as it requires individuals with special abilities, such as fortune tellers, to use a deck of tarot cards to tell someone their future.
For my assignment video based on topic of time, I decided to explore the concept of how time is a much different experience as an adult as compared to as a child. I titled my video, ‘Don’t Blink’ which refers to how time seems to pass in the blink of an eye when living through your adult years, which may become very worrisome for most. The video draws on how the concept of time from childhood to adulthood changes drastically, time during our adult years seems to pass much faster. This is mainly because during our childhood we are constantly being introduced to new experiences and these memorable events are what gauge time for us. As we age, things only become more familiar with us since there are less new experiences and memorable moments, so as a result time seems to pass faster. Making this video made me reconsider how this concept has been applied to my own life, and how by changing things up through always experiencing new things can make time to pass by slower.
